Russian general ‘killed’, Ukraine claims; Zelenskyy ‘not afraid of anyone’; UK approves just 300 refugee visas

More on the earlier development that Russia has reportedly proposed humanitarian corridors from several Ukrainian cities from 7am GMT on Tuesday.

Russian news agencies say people from Kyiv, Chernihiv and Kharkiv would travel to Russia, some via Belarus.

Those from Sumy and Mariupol would get a choice of passage to Russia or Ukrainian cities, according to the Interfax agency.

Ukraine is said to have been given until 3 am Moscow time (midnight UK time) to agree.

President Zelenskyy earlier rejected proposals to evacuate people into “occupied territory” in Russia and Belarus.

In the under-siege southern port of Mariupol, about 200,000 people are estimated to be waiting to flee.

However, several attempts at establishing safe routes out over the last few days have been cut short due to reports of attacks continuing.

The city’s water and power is out, phone networks are down and food is short.
